NEC midfielder John Goossens rejected a switch to Swansea City because he believes the English Premier League to currently be a bridge too far.

Swansea had agreed a fee with NEC for the services of Goossens and the player was due to decide over a move to the Liberty Stadium.

And after much deliberation, the 23-year-old informed his Eredivisie side that he was not interested in speaking to Swansea.

"He feels that a move to the Premier League would be too big", said NEC director Carlos Aalbers, adding: "That’s the main reason not to do it."

Goossens himself also explained that his coach at NEC, Alex Pastoor, was delighted when he heard the midfielder was staying.

"The coach was glad that I did it.

"It made me feel good", admitted Goossens.

The midfielder is out of contract with NEC in the summer and Feyenoord are believed to be interested.
