Chelsea winger Juan Mata has backed manager Andre Villas-Boas, revealing that the Portuguese retains the confidence of the dressing room and has exactly the right approach to dealing with his players.

The Blues have experienced bouts of inconsistency under the former FC Porto boss and stumbled in their bid to be involved in the Premier League title race, with a spot in the top four now occupying Villas-Boas’ mind.

The Chelsea manager can continue to count on the support of his charges however, as Mata, who was snapped up from Valencia in the summer, has affirmed.

"It’s true we’ve had a little crisis of results, but Villas-Boas is doing things very well and both the players and the club have a lot of confidence in him", said the Spaniard.

"He won everything with Porto last year."

The former Valencia man also praised his manager’s approach to dealing with his players.

"I get along with the coach and he tries to talk to every player in his own language.

"I am very happy in England and it is surprising how easily I’ve adapted as changing team is never easy."
