Belgian champions Genk have passed on the chance to snap up veteran Brazilian star Rivaldo.

The 39-year-old played in the Brazilian top flight last season with Sao Paulo, but despite turning 40 in April, is not ready to hang up his boots just yet.

And sources in Belgium confirm that Genk were contacted over the possibility of snapping up the former World Player of the Year.

However, Mario Been’s side have opted not to pursue that avenue.

Rivaldo will now look elsewhere for the next step in an illustrious playing career.

The attacking midfielder has represented the likes of Barcelona, AC Milan, Olympiacos and AEK Athens in a stellar stint on the pitch.
