Despite Borussia Dortmund recently declaring that Mario Gotze was almost certain to remain at the club for next season, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are shaping up to test the Ruhr side’s resolve.

According to Le Parisien, PSG are preparing to send an offer of some €40M to Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund for Gotze and are confident that the bid will force the Bundesliga champions to contemplate the 19-year-old’s departure.

Gotze has been targeted by a number of clubs, including English Premier League powerhouses Arsenal and Manchester United, but all have received scant encouragement from Dortmund.

PSG are desperate to hoover up a player they believe will soon be amongst the world’s elite and this desire has only been exacerbated by the French side’s failure to snap up Kaka from Real Madrid and Alexandre Pato from AC Milan.

Both sporting director Leonardo and coach Carlo Ancelotti have been keeping a close eye on Gotze’s talents and rate the German highly.

And the idea of adding the starlet to Argentine schemer Javier Pastore in the PSG starting eleven is causing the Parc des Prince outfit to dream.

Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc did leave the door slightly ajar for a big money summer bid for the midfielder, claiming: "I’m not a psychic. If tomorrow a club offered us one billion euros then we’d think about it."
