Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he has not yet made any progress on the transfer front despite the winter window having now opened.
Wenger has seen his defensive depth shattered by a series of injuries to key performers and has been linked with bringing in another defender, while Thierry Henry should be arriving on loan from New York Red Bulls.
A left back is the Gunners’ most pressing concern, though Wenger has little to report with his words coming as the agent of AC Milan full back Taye Taiwo denied that there has been any bid from Arsenal for his client.
"At the moment nothing, we don’t have a concrete case, but we don’t rule it out", Wenger told Arsenal’s official site.
"[A loan defender is] the likely scenario, yes."
Wenger also pointed to the fact that much of Europe is struggling economically and suggested the current transfer window will not be filled with fireworks.
"[I am expecting a] quiet market", said the Frenchman.
"Europe is depressed and there is not a lot of money available, only some clubs who have exceptional resources. Let’s say that clubs who are not linked with the economic environment at the moment can buy!"
