Sir Alex Ferguson has knocked back Liverpool’s peace talks idea and slammed the Merseyside club for the story appearing in the press.
Relations between Manchester United and Liverpool have hit a low point after Luis Suarez was handed an eight-game ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra.
Liverpool have continued to stand firmly behind the Uruguayan, with the club’s players even wearing t-shirts in support of their striker. Yet the Reds chose not to appeal Suarez’ ban.
Suarez’ first away match following the ban will be against Manchester United and Liverpool have floated the idea of peace talks at board level to rebuild relations between the two clubs – Ferguson though has criticised this idea, claiming he sees no need for it.
"It is nice of them to do it through the press", said the United boss.
“You would have thought they would come to Manchester United first”, added Ferguson, taking a swipe at the club’s rivals.
"I do not see why there is any need for it, but I have nothing to say about it."
