Manchester United have denied media reports that Wayne Rooney will be sold in the current transfer window.

UK newspaper the Independent, claimed that Rooney’s relationship with manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reached an all-time low and that the club were preparing to offload the striker.

Rooney was recently fined by Manchester United and dropped for the side’s clash with Blackburn Rovers due to poor performance in training after a night out; the England international was reported to have accepted the fine.

And there is no sign that the Red Devils are looking to sell their talisman.

"Any suggestion that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are to part company is complete nonsense", read a statement issued by the club.

"We can assure all United fans that the manager and the club are committed to Wayen Rooney and Wayne is committed to the manager and the club.

"The player and the manager have always had and retain utmost respect for each other and look forward to working together in the coming seasons."
