Lionel Messi has picked up his third consecutive Ballon d’Or at FIFA’s award ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.
The Barcelona star saw off competition from club team-mate Xavi and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite being just 24 years old, Messi’s third win puts him in an elite group of only four players to have picked up the Ballon d’Or that number of times.
The Argentine’s coach at the Camp Nou, Josep Guardiola, was named Coach of the Year.
There was an award too for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who picked up the presidential accolade for services to football.
