Wayne Rooney has once again rubbished talk of a spat with Sir Alex Ferguson and declared his intention to remain at Manchester United for the long term.

It had been reported in the British press that the English champions were looking to offload Rooney this month following a breakdown in the striker’s relationship with Ferguson.

Rooney was recently dropped for the clash against Blackburn Rovers and fined for a lacklustre display in training after a night out.

The England star scored against Manchester City twice yesterday however as United won their FA Cup match 3-2 and Rooney instantly explained he wishes to be at Old Trafford for a long time to come.

Asked whether his performance had been a case of wanting to prove a point, the striker replied: "No, not at all.

"Everything that has been in the press of late is a load of nonsense really.

"There is no problem for me at this club.

"I want to be at this club for a long time."
