Legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo has told his countryman Neymar that he can outshine Lionel Messi – but only if he leaves Brazil.
Neymar, who has so far chosen to snub interest from the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid to remain at Santos, last night picked up the 2011 FIFA Puskas Award for the year’s best goal, thanks to a beautiful solo effort against Flamengo in the Brasileirao.
However, the main accolade of the evening in Zurich went to Lionel Messi, who scooped his third consecutive Ballon d’Or.
And the 19-year-old has been told that he should be focusing on surpassing the Argentine at the top of world football.
"Neymar can’t reach the level of Messi – he can be even better, said Ronaldo.
"He has too much talent to stay in Brazil, he must move abroad to dominate world football by playing as well as he can.
“The prestige of European competition is enormous.”
