Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande have dismissed speculation that they have joined the race for Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
The Ivorian is expected to exit Stamford Bridge in the summer, while an exit in the current transfer window cannot be completely ruled out.
Drogba is thought to have been made a big money offer by another Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua, who have already snapped up Nicolas Anelka and appointed Jean Tigana as coach.
Shanghai are targeting toppling Guangzhou as China’s premier side – and they will not have to count on Drogba playing for their rivals.
"We have had no contact with Drogba and we haven’t authorised anyone to speak to him”, said a spokesman for Guangzhou.
"These recent reports about Drogba are speculation and he is not part of our plans."
The powerful striker is out of contract with Chelsea at the end of the season and is thought to be looking for one big final payday.
