Arsene Wenger has saluted Thierry Henry for his dream Arsenal return as the striker came off the bench to fire the Gunners through in their FA Cup match against Leeds United at the Emirates.
Henry started the evening as a substitute, but as Arsenal failed to find the breakthrough against a stubborn Leeds outfit, Wenger turned to the Frenchman in the 68th minute.
It took just ten minutes for Henry to make his presence felt as he received a pass from Alex Song in the penalty area before shaping his body to slot home past Leeds keeper Andy Lonergan.
It proved to be the only goal of the game and Henry had enjoyed a dream return to his old club, living up to his statue standing outside the Emirates.
Wenger was not surprised with the on-loan striker’s display and revealed he had not needed to hand him any special instructions, such is his belief in the Arsenal legend.
"I just told him where he plays, because he can play on the flanks or through the middle. I told him to play through the middle.
"He did not know who was coming off. For the rest, you don’t need to tell him too much. He has seen it all and done it all.
"You could see when he came on he had a presence on the pitch and if we could find him, he would be dangerous.
"He was sharp physically.
"He was already a legend here and now has added a bit more to the story."
