Didier Drogba is believed to be close to finally agreeing terms with Shanghai Shenhua – but will not leave Chelsea until the end of the season.

The Ivorian is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the current campaign and is keen for one final big payday.

And Shanghai are desperate to pair the 33-year-old with former Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka, all under the watchful eye of recently appointed coach Jean Tigana.

Shanghai had looked set to face opposition from domestic rivals Guangzhou Evergrande, but the Chinese Super League champions have dismissed any notion of bidding for the striker.

Drogba is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Blue Devil, but must still tie up a number of loose ends with Chelsea first.
