Jose Mourinho has explained that Real Madrid will be going all out to win their Copa del Rey quarter-final tie against Barcelona, even though the trophy is third on Los Blancos’ list of priorities.
The first clash between the two takes place tomorrow evening at the Bernabeu and the pairing of the giants at this stage ensures there will be no repeat of last season’s final, which Real Madrid won.
And while the priority for Real Madrid is to win La Liga and then the Champions League, retaining the Copa del Rey is something Mourinho is desperate to do.
"The best possible result against Barcelona is to win the tie", commented the Portuguese.
"The team that is eliminated from the Copa del Rey will play to less games in February and we actually want to play those two fixtures.
"It will be a great match and we’re going to go all our for victory. This isn’t a summer tournament, so we’ll do our best."
The former Inter chief did admit though that on his wishlist, the Spanish Cup is number three.
"The Copa is our third priority this season, but that’s the game we’ll play tomorrow. That which isn’t a priority is more important.
"Nobody plays to lose."
