Liverpool striker Andy Carroll believes that the Reds are still capable of qualifying for the Champions League this season.
Kenny Dalglish’s men have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just 24 times in 21 games, well off the likes of Arsenal (38), Chelsea (40), Tottenham (39), Manchester United (52) and Manchester City (57).
A lack of goals have gone hand in hand with poor home form, with the Merseyside giants drawing six of their last eight home games, a sequence which has helped to see the side five points off the top four and down in seventh.
But Carroll, who has struggled to score prolifically himself for a year now, following a £35M switch from Newcastle United, retains confidence that the Reds will be knocking on the door of Champions League qualification.
"The objective is qualifying for the Champions League and we are up there and still in with a great chance of achieving that aim", the striker told his club’s official site.
"I think it’s quite possible, especially when you consider some of the results that we have seen over the Christmas period with the top teams, including Man Utd, losing matches. We’re still in there without a doubt."
Carroll also admitted that scoring has been a problem.
"We’ve done really well against the top teams and our away form has been great, but in some of the home games we’ve struggled to put our chances away and I think that’s where we need to make sure we start to punish teams.
"Hopefully we can start taking our chances and score more goals as a team.
"There’s a great spirit among the lads. In the dressing room everyone is friends. That shows in training and I think you can see that spirit in the games too."
