Serbian striker Milan Jovanovic has revealed that when Rafael Benitez was replaced as Liverpool manager by Roy Hodgson "everything changed" and his time at Anfield was doomed to failure.

Jovanovic struggled to convince Hodgson and then his successor Kenny Dalglish, of his qualities, and the former Standard Liege man was released last summer.

The forward quickly returned to Belgium to sign for giants Anderlecht and he has found more familiar surroundings at the club, where he is under contract until 2013.

"I’m not happy with how my stay in the Premier League went", said Jovanovic.

"The departure of Benitez changed everything for me", he added; the Spaniard had signed Jovanovic, but never got the chance to coach him.

"The team was not playing with confidence. I am convinced that at present Anderlecht play better than Liverpool did."

Jovanovic also explained he would try his luck outside Belgium again though, but feels his age – the Serbian is 30 – may be a problem.

"I could play anywhere. You know, I have great confidence in my ability.

"But my age is a problem."
