Arsenal striker Robin van Persie believes that the Gunners are still feeling the effect of having lost both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the summer transfer window.

While Arsene Wenger’s men did suffer a disastrous start to the Premier League season, with an 8-2 drubbing at Manchester United thrown into the mix with a number of other disappointing results, the side have improved and are now in contention for a top four spot.

Retaining their Champions League status would be a coup for Arsenal given the late summer business Wenger was compelled to do and the fact that Van Persie is sure Fabregas and Nasri are still badly missed.

"Every squad can use the likes of Samir and Cesc", said the Dutch striker.

"We miss them but we have new players who are doing a terrific job.

"We’ve changed the way we play a bit and of course I am playing in a different role to previously.

"If I don’t score I don’t mind as long as the team win."
