Sources in France have confirmed that Lille are eyeing Sochaux schemer Marvin Martin.
Les Dogues’ coach Rudi Garcia has made the 24-year-old his chief summer transfer target as he seeks to fill the gap left by last year’s departure of Yohan Cabaye to Newcastle United.
The impressively creative Martin could even help to fill the void expected to be left by Eden Hazard’s sale in the summer and Garcia is thought to consider his purchase to be essential.
Lille may face opposition for Martin however as the Sochaux midfielder is a man with many admirers.
One such fan is Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has been consistently linked with bidding for the player.
Lille though hope to beat off competition for Martin and persuade the player that his development would be best served by spending time with the reigning French champions.
