Chelsea are moving to push through an £8M deal for Genk midfielder Kevin De Bruyne – a player they tried and failed to buy in the summer transfer window.
Despite Chelsea’s failure to come to terms with Genk six months ago, Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has remained keen to snap up the 20-year-old Belgian schemer.
And De Bruyne himself is also ready to ink a move to Stamford Bridge.
"The expectation is that [the transfer of De Bruyne] will be finished this week", said a spokesman for the Belgian champions.
De Bruyne helped Genk to the Jupiler Pro League title last season and has continued his excellent for in the current campaign.
Chelsea’s summer proposal for De Bruyne included the midfielder spending the season on loan at Genk and the English club look set to agree to the youngster finishing the season at Mario Been’s side.
"The assumption is that Kevin De Bruyne will be transferred to Chelsea and then finish the season at Genk."
Chelsea will have scored quite a coup by snaring De Bruyne, a player who has made a spectacular impact on Belgian football since emerging onto the scene.
