Barcelona have scored a coup by signing striker Isaac Cuenca to an extended contract at the Camp Nou.

Cuenca had been targeted by Arsenal and Manchester United as speculation over whether he would leave Barcelona grew.

The 20-year-old, who can also operate on the wing, has been tipped for big things and the Blaugrana were desperate to hold onto his services and see off English interest.

And the European Champions have done just that, by persuading Cuenca to sign a new deal running until 2015.

Cuenca has already begun to make the breakthrough to Josep Guardiola’s first team and has clocked up seven appearances in La Liga, with two goals for good measure.

The Spaniard indicated his desire to stay at the Camp Nou at the start of the month, saying: "I want to play in the first team, for me that’s more than just a present for Christmas, it’s a present for life."
