Queens Park Rangers are expected to push through a deal for Nancy midfielder Samba Diakite before the transfer window slams shut next week.

The Rs look to have gained the upper hand in the race for the all-action midfielder, seeing off interest from cash-strapped Lyon in the process, while Marseille have had their hands tied over a possible bid due to their failure to offload Lucho Gonzalez.

Diakite is believed to be excited by the prospect of playing in the Premier League and will further bolster Mark Hughes’ squad.

And barring a shock, the 23-year-old will join QPR on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Importantly too, the London outfit have agreed an option to buy Diakite from Nancy for the fixed price of €4M at the end of the current campaign.

The midfielder has been starring for Mali in the African Cup of Nations this month.
