Barcelona and Manchester City target Adam Maher has insisted that he feels ready to take the next step in his career, following on from comments made recently over a potential transfer.
Maher is under contract with Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar and has enjoyed a notable campaign, which has evidently persuaded him that he could now flourish in a bigger league and with an elite European outfit.
The 18-year-old has attracted interest from some of the continent’s grandest clubs over the course of the season, with his performances alerting newly crowned English champions Manchester City and Spanish giants Barcelona.
There has also been talk of AC Milan being keen on the Dutchman.
And word of the eyes of a whole host of clubs being on him has undoubtedly reached the player, with a move abroad now under serious consideration.
"Of course, it would have to be a club that really wants me", he told NUsport.
"I’d talk to them first to see whether I would get to play.
"My feeling is that I can handle the step to a higher level. I don’t have a preference for which league. I don’t think I’d be moving too fast."
The AZ star also offered some hope to clubs within Holland that might try to tempt him, commenting: "There could be a step up within the Netherlands."
The midfielder is under contract with AZ until 2015.
