Nigerian striker Yakubu is heading to play his football in China, sealing an exit from English Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
Yakubu experienced the pain of relegation from the Premier League with the Ewood Park outfit last season and insisted at once that he did not relish the prospect of playing in England’s second tier.
Now the former Everton man will not have to grace that stage, with a move to Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F FC “99 per cent” done, according to his prospective new employers.
“We will conduct the final talks and we are almost done”, said Guangzhou vice-president Lu Yi to Xinhua.
“The deal is 99 per cent finished.
“If the last one per cent is no problem, Yakubu arrives in Guangzhou this week.”
Yakubu is thought to be set to earn around €6M per year in China and will be tasked with keeping Guangzhou in the Chinese Super League after the club gained promotion last season.
