Germany have brushed past Greece (4-2) to power into the Euro 2012 semi-finals.

Joachim Low’s men started their quarter-final clash as red hot favourites to put Greece, surprise qualifiers through Group A, to the sword.

And so confident was Low of his team that Thomas Muller and Mario Gomez (Germany’s top Euro 2012 scorer so far with three goals) were rested.

Low’s decision did not look at all dangerous as Germany overwhelmed Greece from the first whistle, confining their opponents firmly to their own half.

The Germans created chance after chance, but failed to take any for most of the first half, leading to nerves becoming frayed amongst their supporters.

But then in the 38th minute, full back Philipp Lahm unleashed an unstoppable shot, putting Germany 1-0 ahead.

Greece however hit back, when striker Georgios Samaras levelled the scores from a Greek counter attack.

Germany refused to be shocked though and Sami Khedira fired in a remarkable shot which gave the Greek goalkeeper no chance. Miroslav Klose then scored Germany’s third and Marco Reus the fourth.

Greece did grab a consolation of sorts when Dimitris Salpingidis converted a penalty in the 88th minute.
