Schalke are still aiming to persuade Dutch goal-getter Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to sign a new contract with the club, but insist there is no rush.
Huntelaar is out of contract next summer and while the former Real Madrid man insists he is happy at the Ruhr giants, he does appear to be waiting to see signs of their ambition in the summer transfer market before committing his long-term future to the club.
General manager Horst Heldt, who has signing Huntelaar to a new contract at the top of his to-do list, is not getting worried about the Dutchman’s dwindling current deal just yet however.
"He knows that we would like to extend his contract and there is time to do something", said Heldt.
"We had a lot of talks with him and his agent before the European Championship", he added.
"These were good, clear conversations and I don’t see why we should be rushed."
Huntelaar has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers in Germany football at Schalke.
He scored an astonishing 48 goals in 48 games last season.
Huntelaar spoke to Inside Futbol in a lengthy interview before Euro 2012 – read it here.
