Juventus are lining up a transfer that, were the Bianconeri able to complete, would surely be the coup of the summer.
According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Antonio Conte’s side want to snap up Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez from Liverpool before the 2012/13 campaign kicks off.
Juventus have money to spend this summer and are determined to add a world-class striker to their squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League next season.
Gonzalo Higuain has been a target for the Italian giants, but the Argentine is reluctant to leave Real Madrid, while Jose Mourinho wants to keep the goal-getter at the Bernabeu.
Another possible addition is Napoli forward Edinson Cavani – however, signing the Uruguayan is difficult and the club’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has slapped an asking price of €70M onto the head of a man who scored 23 goals in Serie A last season.
Signing Suarez from Liverpool looks to be equally difficult, but Juventus can offer Champions League football to the former Ajax man, combined with an exit from the Premier League, where he experienced a turbulent spell last season; Suarez served a ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
Juventus are planning to test the water with a bid of some €18M plus Serbian winger Milos Krasic, a man the Bianconeri value at €15M.
That would translate into a bid worth €33M for Suarez and, the Italian champions hope, will quickly establish whether business can be done with Liverpool for their striking talisman.
