Arsenal have, as expected, confirmed the signing of Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.
The 25-year-old, who helped Rene Girard’s men to win the French title last season, has inked what the Gunners describe as a “long term” contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Montpellier president Louis Nicollin confirmed last night that an agreement with Arsenal had taken “just a few days” to arrange and Giroud has jumped at the chance to join the English giants, with personal terms not proving to be a problem.
And Wenger is delighted to have signed the man who scored 21 goals in Ligue 1 last season.
“We are delighted to secure the signing of Olivier Giroud”, Wenger told his club’s official site.
“He has a very good physical presence and is exceptional in the air, with a great work ethic. We are excited about Olivier joining us and he will add an additional dimension to our attacking options next season.
“He has proved that he is capable of performing at the top level with club and country and we saw what a big influence he was on Montpellier’s championship-winning side last season.”
Giroud is thought to have cost Arsenal around £12M after the Gunners activated a clause in his contract.
