Aston Villa are snapping up Moroccan defensive midfielder Karim El Ahmadi from Feyenoord.

The 27-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at the Rotterdam giants and Ronald Koeman’s men are keen to avoid losing the schemer without a fee next summer.

El Ahmadi, who cost Feyenoord €5M to buy from FC Twente in 2008, made 20 appearances in the Eredivisie last season, helping the De Kuip outfit to an impressive campaign.

Feyenoord will raise around €2.8M from selling the 27-year-old to the English Premier League club.

El Ahmadi was born in Holland and quickly rose through Twente’s youth system, earning his first team debut in 2004.

Despite this however, his Moroccan roots saw him opt to represent the North African country at international level.

El Ahmadi made his international bow in 2008 and has since gone on to earn 10 caps for Morocco.
