Schalke general manager Horst Heldt is confident that Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will extend his contract at the club.

The Holland international has just one year more left to run on his present deal with the Ruhr giants and would have no shortage of offers if he decided to try his luck elsewhere.

Huntelaar may have suffered disappointment with the Oranje at Euro 2012, failing to make it out of Group B, but he enjoyed a superb season in German football.

The 28-year-old managed a remarkable 48 goals 48 games, an astonishing return and a sign he has begun to dominate the scoring charts in the Bundesliga.

Schalke are understandably very keen to extend Huntelaar’s contract, though so far the Dutchman has not put pen to paper, with the player looking for signs in the transfer market that the German giants can match his own ambition.

Heldt though is confident that Huntelaar is going to sign a new deal.

"Klaas-Jan is still under contract", the Schalke general manager told Reviersport.

"He knows we want to extend it and I believe that he will agree to do just that."
