Swiss Super League outfit FC Sion have ruled out a swoop for veteran Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi and Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf, but hinted that Alessandro Nesta would be welcome at the Stade Tourbillon.
Numerous sources had suggested that Sion wanted to sign both Alessandro Del Piero and Inzaghi, pairing the two veterans up to rekindle the Juventus strikeforce of the late 1990s.
Sion have already signed midfielder Gennaro Gattuso from AC Milan and look set to continue with their policy of signing Italian legends – just not Inzaghi or Seedorf.
"Seedorf is strong, but we are fixed in that position with Gattuso, who is a great person", Sion sporting director Marco Degennaro told Radio Mana Mana.
"With Inzaghi there was no direct contract with our president, but this is the type of signing we like.
"The need to reinforce the attack is there, but with all due respect to Inzaghi, it’s not going to be able to be him.
"With Nesta there was an enquiry. We have problems in defence and we want to buy a defender. Whether or not this will be Nesta I don’t know.
"The former AC Milan player was one of the greatest defenders in the world and the idea is Nesta, although I don’t know. There has been no official contact."
