AZ Alkmaar have received their first bid of the summer for promising midfielder Adam Maher – and rejected it.
Maher has gone on record as stating that he feels ready for the next step in his career, a comment widely taken as a come-and-get-me plea to his many suitors across Europe.
But the Dutchman will not come cheap, even if AZ do agree to sell, with €10M thought to be the minimum amount that will be given serious consideration by the Eredivisie outfit.
And that size of offer has not arrived, meaning AZ were quick to knock back the first bid for Maher, which was reported as having been made by PSV Eindhoven.
"The bid was received, but it was not serious", said AZ sporting director Ernest Stewart, confirming the rejection.
At PSV, there has been a denial that they are the club behind the offer, leaving the picture unclear.
"We did not make an offer and Maher is too expensive", said PSV technical director Marcel Brands.
