Former Anderlecht coach Ariel Jacobs has asked his new club, Danish giants FC Copenhagen, to look at loaning Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for next season.
According to Le Soir, Jacobs is desperate to add Lukaku to his squad for the 2012/13 campaign as Copenhagen look to reach the group stage of the Champions League, but convincing Chelsea to agree is a problem, and initial efforts have come to naught.
The Belgian tactician worked with Lukaku when he coached Anderlecht from 2007 until the end of last season, and rates the powerful forward extremely highly.
Jacobs has kept a watch on the 19-year-old’s progress at Stamford Bridge, noting with great interest his lack of playing time and subsequent frustration.
Lukaku himself has admitted he may have to go on loan for next season for regular first team football, but his future remains in the hands of Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo.
Jacobs was hugely successful at Anderlecht, winning the Belgian top flight last season and in the 2009/10 campaign; he also picked up the Belgian Cup in 2008.
The 58-year-old enjoys a good relationship with Lukaku, which may tempt the striker to make the move to Parken.
Chelsea need to perform something of a U-turn for that to happen though, as the Blues are believed to prefer the idea of sending Lukaku on loan to another English Premier League club, in order to increase his experience of football in England.
