Former England manager Fabio Capello is a serious contender to take over as Russia coach.
Capello parted company with the Three Lions earlier this year due to a disagreement over the appointment of John Terry as team captain, leaving his successor Roy Hodgson to lead the country into Euro 2012.
Russia are on the lookout for a new coach following the departure of Dick Advocaat.
The Dutchman failed to steer Russia past the group stage at Euro 2012 – he had already agreed to take over as PSV Eindhoven boss after the tournament.
Capello is on standby to take over, but sources in Russia have indicated that talks with the Italian and his representatives will only begin after a new head of the Russian Football Union is named – elections are due.
Nevertheless, the former Real Madrid manager is said to be ready to fly to Moscow at short notice to discuss taking charge and aiming to guide the country to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
