Speculation linking Liverpool and Malaga with a bid for Fiorentina winger Juan Manuel Vargas is simply that, speculation, the player’s agent has admitted.

Vargas has often been mooted as being close to the exit door at La Viola, but has continued to ply his trade with the Italian giants.

However, the 28-year-old’s contract situation at Fiorentina, with a deal due to expire next summer, has fuelled talk that he may be sold before the 2012/13 campaign begins – and there would surely be no shortage of suitors.

While Vargas’ agent Jorge Cyterszpiler openly mused about the attractiveness of Liverpool and Malaga to Tutto Mercato, he was also forced to admit that neither of the two clubs have made contact with Fiorentina.

"Liverpool is an option, but also Malaga too, which could give him the chance to play in the Champions League", said Cyterszpiler.

"He could leave Fiorentina, it is a possibility, but at the moment this is just rumours and there is not anything official."

Vargas joined La Viola in 2008 from fellow Italian club Catania.

He had at one point seemed set for Real Madrid, but eventually landed in Florence for €12M.
