Brazilian midfielder Diego could return to his homeland after Flamengo expressed an interest in signing the 27-year-old.

Diego spent last season on loan with Atletico Madrid, but the Spanish outfit opted not to make his move a permanent one and the schemer has returned to parent club Wolfsburg.

There looks to be little future for Diego back at the Volkswagen Arena though.

Diego does not enjoy the easiest of relationship with Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath and will be sold for the right price.

Now Flamengo have enquired about signing the Brazilian.

Diego could serve as a replacement for Ronaldinho, who left Flamengo earlier this year.
