Laurent Blanc has parted company with the France national team.

Blanc’s contract with Les Bleus expires today and, after meeting with French Football Federation chief Noel Le Graet, both parties decided against renewing it.

The former Inter defender had been set the target of leading France to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 – a feat he achieved.

However, it is understood that the manner of France’s defeat at that stage to Spain did not please the country’s football chiefs.

Blanc has also not seen eye-to-eye with Le Graet for some time and his departure had been expected.

Didier Deschamps is the favourite to become France’s new coach.
