Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has proposed the outlandish idea of France having joint national team coaches.

Les Bleus have started the search for a new boss after Laurent Blanc’s contract was not renewed by the French Football Federation.

Didier Deschamps is the front-runner to take over, but Lille’s Rudi Garcia and Montpellier’s Rene Girard have also been mentioned as potential candidates.

While Nicollin would not like to lose Girard, who led the club to the Ligue 1 title last season, permanently, he could see an arrangement by where his manager does the post part-time with Lille’s Garcia.

"I would not mind a join arrangement with Garcia-Girard", Nicollin told RMC, insisting it would be a return to the old days of Albert Batteux.

"If [Noel Le] Graet (FFF chief, ed.) would pay Girard to have him for France from time to time, I’d be prepared to do that, with great pleasure.

"This is what should be done; have two club coaches."
