Spain have won Euro 2012 after demolishing Italy 4-0 in the final in Kyiv.

The showpiece was a game La Roja utterly dominated and they were handed the lead after only 14 minutes through a David Silva strike.

That advantage was doubled before half-time as left back Jordi Alba, surging forward, was played in on goal and made no mistake, drilling the ball home to make it 2-0.

That really killed the Italians, as did losing midfielder Thiago Motta to injury when coach Cesare Prandelli had already used his three substitutes. Ironically, Motta had just been brought on himself, but a hamstring injury saw him stretchered off.

Spain passed the ball around with ease and it was little surprise when they scored a third in the 84th minute, when Fernando Torres, on as a substitute, found the back of the net.

The rout was ended when Juan Mata struck with two minutes of the game left and ensured Spain won the Euro 2012 final 4-0.

It is the largest margin of victory ever in a European Championship final and also the first time any country has retained the trophy.
