QPR have announced the signing of talented Brazilian full-back Fabio da Silva on loan from Manchester United. Fabio is the twin brother of Rafael and will play in QPR colours for the 2012/13 season.

Fabio joined Manchester United in 2008 but has found it difficult to cement a permanent place in the Red Devils line-up. He has appeared in 21 league games for the Old Trafford outfit in his four years at the club and mostly featured in FA Cup and Carling Cup matches.

The energetic full-back is highly rated at the club but constant injury problems have made it difficult for the player to hold down a regular place in the first XI. Sir Alex Ferguson had already hinted that Fabio would be loaned out for the 2012/13 season to gain much needed first-team experience and the player has now decided to join ex-Manchester United striker Mark Hughes’s team for this purpose.

QPR were eager to sign the young defender to put an end to their issues at full-back and Hughes is delighted that the club have been able to secure the services of the talented Brazilian for the 2012/13 season.

“He’s very versatile – he can play left or right-back and he’s also been utilised in midfield by Sir Alex [Ferguson] in the past, so we know what we’re getting, and that’s a very good player”, said the QPR boss.

Fabio is also pleased at the prospect of finally getting a chance to consistently play in the Premier League and asserted that he will try to prove his credentials at the club and to his manager.

“This loan is so important for me in terms of my career”, said the Brazilian. “I want to play as many games as possible here. I want to play well and win games as well. I also came here because I’m ambitious. I want to help QPR progress up the Premier League.”

Fabio was not picked for Brazil’s Olympics squad and will be able to join his team-mates at Loftus Road for pre-season training. The young 21-year-old will be looking to add steel to a shaky QPR defence which conceded 66 league goals last season.
