Anzhi Makhachkala made Clarence Seedorf an offer, but the Dutchman turned it down, Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos has confirmed.

The former left back, who works on Guus Hiddink’s staff at the Dagestan giants and also advises president Suleyman Kerimov, spoke to Seedorf about joining up with Anzhi for next season.

However, the veteran midfielder has chosen to sign for Brazilian side Botafogo on a two-year deal; it will also mean his wife returning to her homeland as she is Brazilian.

"I spoke to Seedorf three weeks ago", said Carlos on Brazilian radio.

"I asked him if he wanted to come to Anzhi, even though we have a corporate policy that forbids us from signing players who are over 30.

"I talked to him about it, but Clarence told me he had already decided to go to Botafogo.

"I hope he does well in Brazil."
