Andre Villas-Boas has expressed his delight at being appointed as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager.

The 34-year-old has been handed a three-year contract to succeed Harry Redknapp, who was surprisingly sacked by Spurs despite leading the club back into the Premier League’s top four last season.

And following a poor spell with Chelsea, which saw him relieved of his duties in March, Villas-Boas will be bidding to rebuild his reputation as one of the most exciting young coaches around.

“Tottenham Hotspur are a great club with a strong tradition and fantastic support, both at home and throughout the world”, said the Portuguese to Tottenham’s official website.

“I feel privileged to become coach.

“This is one of the most exciting coaching positions in the Premier League. I have had several discussions with the chairman and the board and I share their vision for the future progress of the club.”

Villas-Boas arrives at White Hart Lane with a number of pressing issues to deal with, not least Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart edging towards the exit door, as serious interest from Real Madrid and Hamburg, respectively, heats up.
