Werder Bremen are keen to snap up Eljero Elia on a loan deal this summer from Juventus, but it seems that the Italian giants are only ready to sell the Dutch winger.
Elia joined the reigning Italian Champions last year for a fee of €9M. He rose to prominence in 2009 with impressive performances at Hamburg while he enhanced his reputation further with classy displays in the 2010 World Cup too. His quality wing play eventually impressed the Italian giants as they signed the player in 2011.
However, the Dutch starlet struggled in the Serie A and only appeared five times for the Turin-based club in the entire 2011/12 season. The 25-year-old failed to make any real impact and performed poorly when given a chance.
The Bianconeri management seem frustrated with the talented winger and are ready to listen to offers for him. Elia signed a contract which runs until 2015 and still has three years remaining on his present deal.
Werder Bremen are interested in taking the Dutch winger, but are only looking to sign him on a loan deal. The Green Whites want to replace forward Claudio Pizzaro, who has already moved to Bayern Munich after a successful four-year stint with Bremen and have earmarked the Dutchman as their number one target.
However, Werder’s management are reluctant to splash the cash on Elia and want to test him first by signing him on loan before completing a permanent deal.
The Old Lady on the other hand want to recoup most of the money they spent on Elia and thus are open to transfer bids but not willing to loan the winger.
The chances of Elia’s move to Werder Bremen happening are still high though as coach Thomas Schaff may well look to sign the player on a permanent deal if Juventus hold firm to their stance of not loaning him.
