Alberto Aquilani is calm about the prospect of returning to Liverpool for the 2012/13 season, he agent has claimed.
The Italian midfielder spent last season in his homeland on loan at AC Milan, but failed to make the number of appearances required for the Rossoneri to turn his switch into a permanent affair.
Aquilani played the 2010/11 campaign in Italy too, with Juventus, though they too cooled on taking him on a permanent basis.
Now the former Roma midfielder faces the prospect of returning to Liverpool – although it is one he is calm at, his agent has insisted, as the pass-master has no preference for where he plays his football next season.
“At the moment Aquilani is a Liverpool player and he will begin pre-season training with them”, the midfielder’s agent Franco Zavaglia told Tutto Mercato.
“Then we will see what happens. The new manager must decide if he wants him.
“I do not think he is going to return to Italy and he has not expressed a preference, but it is important Liverpool let us know if he is in their plans, so we have time to find him the right club.”
Aquilani was signed for Liverpool by Rafael Benitez, who earmarked the Italian as a replacement for Xabi Alonso.
