Pele has insisted that if the Brazil side of 1970 were to play the current Spain crop, the South Americans would win comfortably.
Spain’s international heroics of winning Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and most recently Euro 2012, have caused a number of observers to label La Roja as the best ever international side.
Better even than Brazil’s 1970 World Cup-winning team, which contained an all-conquering Pele.
In the 1970 World Cup final, Brazil took Italy apart to win 4-1, while at Euro 2012, Spain put four past the same opponents without reply.
For Pele though, Brazil of 1970 are still better.
"We had a lot more better players than Spain, that have two or three excellent players", said the Brazilian legend.
"If the current Spain and that Brazil played a game now, we would win, especially if I played!", added Pele.
The biggest test for Spain surely lies ahead however, with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil to come.
