Talented Moroccan international Younes Belhanda will be staying with Montpellier HSC for the 2012/13 season. The player informed the fans about his decision to remain with the reigning Ligue 1 champions through his Facebook page.

“I wanted to share with you my choice to continue the adventure with my team-mates this season at MHSC”, read the status on Belhanda’s official Facebook page.

The attacking midfielder indicated that the prospect of playing in the Champions League with his childhood club is a dream come true for him.

“As I said, I really want to play in the Champions League and I will be very happy to represent our colors this season!”

The 22-year-old creative midfielder joined the Ligue 1 champions’ first team in 2009 after graduating from the club’s youth academy. The Moroccan has been a regular fixture ever since and has played 97 league games in just three seasons.

The Moroccan starlet rose to prominence last season as he simply lit up Ligue 1 with his impressive displays. Belhanda scored 12 goals in the league and created a further six for his team-mates, being instrumental in La Paillade’s title triumph.

Montpellier’s management will be very happy with Belhanda’s announcement as the team could not have afforded the loss of another marquee player after losing striker Olivier Giroud.

Belhanda has attracted the interest of some of the biggest European clubs over the last 12 months. The likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool, Inter Milan and PSG have all been linked with the creative midfielder, but his announcement that he will stay with Montpellier for another season should stop transfer chatter for the moment at least.
