Alessandro Nesta has opted to continue his career in Major League Soccer.

The 36-year-old stopper has signed an 18-month contract with Montreal Impact.

Nesta saw his contract with AC Milan expire at the end of last season and has been pondering his options.

Swiss Super League outfit Sion had been thinking over making the former Lazio defender an offer; Sion have already snapped up former Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

Milan too were linked with signing Nesta to a new deal in a move which would have seen his Rossoneri career continue.

But now the Italian stopper is preparing for a new challenge on a new continent in the MLS.
