Feyenoord and their feeder club Excelsior will get a percentage of the transfer fee from Arsenal if Robin van Persie is sold before his contract expires next season.

The Dutch forward announced his decision to not extend his contract with Arsene Wenger’s men on Wednesday and the news has increased the interest of clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus in the Gunners hitman.

While Arsenal will be hoping that they get a good price for their contract rebel superstar, Van Persie’s ex-teams Feyenoord and Excelsior will also be praying that a bidding war ensues for the Holland international’s services and that he is sold for the highest price possible.

The reason behind this is an agreement between Arsenal and Feyenoord during the transfer of the young Van Persie from the Dutch club to the Premier League giants, which says that the clubs at which the Dutch forward was active before joining the Gunners will get a small percentage of his sale in the future.

Now that the departure of the Arsenal captain looks imminent, the two Dutch clubs will receive some fee.

Feyenoord’s technical director Martin van Geel seemed happy enough about the amount of money they may receive from the forward’s sale, commenting: “It is a training fee. We really see this as a bonus.

“We are not hoping that Van Persie leaves, but it would be an excellent bonus for Feyenoord if he does take steps to leave Arsenal before his contract expires."

Van Geel was quick insists however that the Rotterdam side are not desperate for Van Persie to be sold and would see the fee as nothing more than a ‘perk’.

For Excelsior though, the money would be helpful, as managing director Simon Kelder explained, even if it is not crucial.

“It is five percent of five percent, so no, for us that does not mean much”, said Kelder. “Of course, every little bit helps. Anyway, we must first all wait and see."
