Joe Cole is hoping to be given an opportunity to prove himself at Liverpool under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

The technically gifted midfielder spent last season on loan at French outfit Lille, but has returned to Anfield for pre-season training and is desperate to pull on the red shirt of Liverpool once again.

Cole moved to the Merseyside giants in the summer of 2010, but struggled to make an impact, first under Roy Hodgson and then the England manager’s successor, Kenny Dalglish.

The 30-year-old was a regular fixture in Rudi Garcia’s Lille team last season and, although the Ligue 1 club would have loved to have kept the Englishman, his wages were a problem for the French side to afford.

Cole is now desperate to make an impact at Liverpool.

“Of course. I don’t want to leave Liverpool one day having not been a success here or having left something here. I want to make an imprint at the club”, the midfielder told Liverpool’s official website.

“I’ve been a success at West Ham, Chelsea and Lille – I don’t want people to be able to say that I haven’t here”, he added.

“I’d like to be given the opportunity to play, learn and improve, and join this great team. It’s a great group and I would like to be involved in this team and really push on.”
