Italian full back Davide Santon has revealed that Roma tried to snap him up from Newcastle, but the Magpies refused to play ball.
Santon is desperate to break back into the Italy squad in time for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and a switch to the Giallorossi, where Azzurri boss Cesare Prandelli could watch him on a regular basis, might have made sense.
But the former Inter man is enjoying life at St. James’ Park and insists he was not disappointed when Newcastle blocked the proposed switch.
"The Giallorossi showed up a short time ago", Santon told Calcio Mercato.
"But Newcastle refused to let me go.
"It is okay with me, because I have settled down in England and I have no intention of moving.
"I’ve only been here for a year and it is too soon to pack up and go back."
The 21-year-old is trying to get his career back on track at Newcastle after falling out of form and favour at Inter.
He joined the Magpies just last summer on a five-year contract, with the English Premier League club having splashed out around €6M for his services.
