Jan Vertonghen has still not been able to resolve his transfer wrangle with Ajax.

A fee between Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur for the Belgian defender has been agreed and Vertonghen wants to move to White Hart Lane this summer.

But the player believes that a clause in his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA entitles him to 15% of the transfer fee; Ajax beg to differ, claiming that the clause the Belgian is thinking of only kicks in at fees of €20M or over.

The dispute has rumbled on and is threatening Vertonghen’s proposed switch to England – although with just one year remaining on his contract with Ajax he still has significant leverage.

Vertonghen’s representatives met with the Eredivisie champions yesterday in order to try to reach a compromise, but they have not been successful.

"There is currently no agreement", said Nakhli Mondial, a member of the sports agency which represents the Belgium international.

However, Modial pledged that the talks with continue.

"It was not easy, but we will try again.

"Maybe on Saturday."
